Micro-Computed Tomography Analysis of Subchondral Bone Regeneration Using Osteochondral Scaffolds in an Ovine Condyle Model

چکیده
Osteochondral scaffold technology has emerged as a promising therapy for repairing osteochondral defects. Recent research suggests that seeding scaffolds with bone marrow concentrate (BMC) may enhance tissue regeneration. To examine this hypothesis, study examined subchondral regeneration in and without BMC. Ovine stifle condyle models were used the vivo study. Two systems (8 mm diameter 10 thick) BMC implanted into femoral condyle, tissues retrieved after six months. The condyles (with in) using micro-computed tomography scans (micro-CT), micro-CT data further analysed by ImageJ respect to trabecular thickness, volume total ratio (BV/TV) ratio, degree of anisotropy bone. Statistical analysis compared between groups sub-set regions. These results mostly insignificant (p < 0.05), exception when comparing composition region. Additional trends observed. suggest addition did not significantly affect defects However, provides which guide development future treatments.

متن کاملMicro Computed Tomography Analysis of Magnesium Screw Degradation & Bone Regeneration
INTRODUCTION 6.3 million cases of bone trauma happen each year in the US alone [1]. In a majority of these cases, permanent fixation implants using titanium plates and screws are used as a remedy, but they do have their drawbacks. Some of these disadvantages include bone wear and degradation, resulting in the implant to become loose. They also present a prime site for possible infection [2]. An...
متن کاملBioactive Scaffolds for Regeneration of Cartilage and Subchondral Bone Interface
The cartilage lesion resulting from osteoarthritis (OA) always extends into subchondral bone. It is of great importance for simultaneous regeneration of two tissues of cartilage and subchondral bone. 3D-printed Sr5(PO4)2SiO4 (SPS) bioactive ceramic scaffolds may achieve the aim of regenerating both of cartilage and subchondral bone. We hypothesized that strontium (Sr) and silicon (Si) ions rele...

Analysis of 3D bone ingrowth into polymer scaffolds via micro-computed tomography imaging.
This paper illustrates the utility of micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) to study the process of tissue engineered bone growth. A micro-CT facility for imaging and visualising biomaterials in three dimensions (3D) is described. The facility is capable of acquiring 3D images made up of 2000(3) voxels on specimens up to 60mm in extent with resolutions down to 2 microm. This allows the 3D struct...
